What to Expect

I specialize in the area of trauma including acute, chronic, or complex as well as the resulting grief, anxiety, depression, and addictions that may have developed.  In my sessions I work to create a safe space for clients so that we can begin to develop a therapeutic relationship. I practice from a strength based, client centered approach, where clients always have choice in how the sessions progress.

I combine different therapeutic tools and approaches to meet the needs of individual clients. These include: Somatic Experiencing Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Compassion Focused therapy, Attachment-based Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  Clients learn to have awareness of their nervous system, early trauma adaptations and attachment patterns.  They learn the practice of self-compassion which can reduce stress and anxiety, as well as increase one’s ability to manage intense emotions.

I am passionate and moved by people’s personal growth and transformation. I would be honored to work with you and look forward to meeting you.

About Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a body-focused approach to treating trauma being taught throughout the world. It is the result of over forty years of observation, research, and hands-on development by Dr. Peter Levine.  Somatic Experiencing® offers a new and hopeful perspective on trauma. It views the human as a unique being, endowed with an instinctual capacity to heal.  SE is a gentle and effective body-oriented approach that is designed to compliment numerous occupational orientations.  There is a strong scientific component to the work, which includes the latest understanding of neuroscience, affect regulation and the polyvagal theory.   Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a naturalistic form of healing that helps clients learn how to settle and release physiological activation in their body.  Very often this process helps people to reduce stress and return to a sense of regulation and mastery in their lives.  SE supports clients in learning how to attend to uncomfortable sensations in their body and gently unwind them through their conscious attention.  SE is particularly useful in managing stress because so many of the symptoms are physiological.  For more information about SE visit  www.traumahealing.org

About Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that utilizes back and forth eye movements to help clients address trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, addiction and many other mental and physical conditions. It is not the same as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), however they both use eye movements.

ART works directly to reprogram the way in which distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions.  ART accomplishes this through the use of rapid eye movements similar to eye movements that occur during dreaming. Although techniques similar to these are used in other types of therapies, ART’s very specific and directive approach can achieve rapid recovery from symptoms and reactions that may have been present for many years.  Importantly, clients do not even have to talk about their traumas or difficult life experiences with the therapist to achieve recovery. “I have come to the conclusion that human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma. I believe not only that trauma is curable but that the healing process can be a catalyst for profound awakening – a portal opening to emotional and genuine spiritual transformation.”

~Peter Levine

“The most important aspect of our work toward healing is to learn to love and accept ourselves fully. It is to learn to have our own backs and to not abandon ourselves. Only then will the fear of not being accepted by others subside. Only then will we be free to be our authentic selves.”

~Linda Sutton

“The essence of trauma is a disconnection from the self.  Therefore the essence of healing is not just uncovering one’s past, but reconnecting with oneself in the present.”

~Gabor Mate
